One of the youngest stars on our team, Pernell has already made an impact in the world of savings. We caught up with him to learn more about what fuels his passion for finance, how he keeps his energy up (spoiler alert: it’s not coffee), and where he sees himself in the future.
Q: Pernell, you’re one of the youngest team members at Recognise – what drew you to savings and finance so early in your career?
A: I’ve always been fascinated by how financial decisions are made and the wider impact they have. Working in savings gives me a front-row seat to understand the rationale behind those decisions. It’s a mix of financial stability and consumer behaviour – and that combination keeps things really interesting.
Q: If you could sum up your experience at Recognise so far in one emoji, what would it be and why?
A: 😅 It’s been hard work, but I’ve enjoyed every moment.
Q: What’s a recent win – big or small – that you’re proud of?
A: Definitely contributing to the launch of our new 2 Year Fixed savings account. It was a great experience to be part of something that brings value to our customers.
Q: If you weren’t working in savings, what would your dream job be?
A: Easy – footballer!
Q: What’s one financial tip you think every Gen Z-er should know?
A: Stay informed. Listening to or reading about what’s happening in the world really helps you make better financial decisions.
Q: Coffee or energy drinks?
A: Energy drinks – hands down.
Q: Who at Recognise have you learnt the most from?
A: I’ve learned so much from so many people that it’s hard to name just one. My top three would be Gareth, Ronelle and Yulia – they’ve each taught me something unique.
Q: What’s your go-to music to get in the zone at work?
A: Anything from my playlist. It depends on the mood, but it always gets me in the right headspace.
Q: And where do you see yourself in five years?
A: Hopefully still at Recognise, contributing to the bank’s ongoing growth and success.
