Get to know our lending manager: Ryan Kelly

At Recognise Bank, relationships are at the core of everything we do; with our customers, our broker partners, and the people who power our business behind the scenes. Ryan Kelly, our Lending Manager, is one of those people.

With a strong background in commercial property finance, our newest lending manager Ryan Kelly brings a focused and forward-thinking approach to every deal. He thrives on understanding the aspirations of businesses and actively contributing to their journey toward success.

This is more than a Q&A. It’s a window into what it looks like to build a career, make an impact and bring your full self to the table.

What brought you into lending, and to Recognise Bank?
Having spent over 9 years as a commercial property finance broker, I wanted to take on a new challenge in my career but still be part of the property finance industry. Moving into lending with Recognise Bank gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that.

What do you love most about working with brokers and SMEs?
I love learning about what customers are planning right now and what they want to achieve in the future. Playing a role in their journey to success is incredibly rewarding.

Is there something unique or unexpected in your background that shaped your career?
Initially I was planning to go to sixth form college and then university, but I could not decide what course I would want to do. I started looking at apprenticeship programs and saw an opportunity to work at a property finance brokerage. That apprenticeship opened the door to the industry and once I passed, I never looked back.

What makes a deal stand out to you?
For me, the standout deals are the ones that help a borrower grow their business or portfolio and create the potential for repeat business in the future. Those are the ones that feel truly impactful.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give a business considering bridging loans?
Look beyond the headline rate. The cheapest option on paper isn’t always the best choice for your specific requirements. Weighing up the overall merits of different lending options is crucial.

What’s the most rewarding part of completing a deal?
A customer who is satisfied with the level of service they have received and wants to continue working together on their future projects. That repeat trust means everything.

What do you think sets Recognise Bank apart from other lenders?
The fact that we assess every application on its individual merits. We pride ourselves on being commercially minded and making decisions that are tailored, not tick-box.

What have you learned from working with brokers?
Transparency and communication are key. Keeping brokers updated at every stage and being open about any obstacles helps build stronger, long-lasting relationships.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy playing 5-a-side football and I’m a season ticket holder at Birmingham City, so watching matches is a big part of my life. I also love travelling to new places and I have a keen interest in cars and motorsport events. At home, I like to unwind with a book or a comedy film or TV show.

Complete this sentence: “People might not guess this about me, but…”
I’m actually quite a clumsy person!

Whether it’s Ryan’s background as a broker, his focus on long-term client relationships, or his enthusiasm for helping businesses grow, he brings energy and insight to every deal.

If you’re a broker or business looking for a lending partner who sees the bigger picture and will support you every step of the way, Ryan would love to hear from you.
